Congratulations to the winners of our National Manufacturing Institute Scotland Industry Doctorate Programme – Student Poster Competition which took place at our inaugural SRPe Annual Conference last week (#srpe19).

The poster exhibition was outstanding highlighting the diverse range of leading-edge research projects underway within this prestigious programme to tackle key research challenges and opportunities in the advanced / digital manufacturing industry.

Kate Forbes, Minister for Public Finance and Digital Economy, the conference keynote speaker, met with the students who are part of the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) Manufacturing Skills Academy, along with their industry and academic supervisors.

NMIS is an industry-led international centre of manufacturing expertise which aims to make Scotland and the UK a global leader in advanced manufacturing based on an investment by the Scottish Government, industry and the Scottish universities.

SRPe is a key NMIS delivery partner and the PhD students are the first of 30 industry doctorate projects launched by SRPe under its NMIS Industry Doctorate Programme (NMIS-IDP).

The Minister learned about the students’ research projects, which aim to address key manufacturing challenges and opportunities spanning the aerospace, energy, marine, biomedical, food & drink, transport, defense, quantum, photonics and pharmaceutical sectors.

Kate Forbes said:

“It was fantastic to attend the inaugural SRPe Conference, and to see the impressive breadth of engineering research and innovation happening in our Universities. I was particularly pleased to meet the NMIS Industry Doctorate students, whose research projects demonstrate Scotland’s potential to be a global leader in engineering and manufacturing technology […] The work of SRPe, including its role in supporting NMIS reach across Scotland, is vital in encouraging such innovation in Scottish engineering.‎ We are hugely supportive of this type of collaboration between the public sector, industry and academia that SRPe exemplifies.”

The competition was judged by a panel of key NMIS collaborators from across academia, industry and government.
